The target transforms into a vaporous state. In this state, the target is amorphous. It loses any item bonus to AC and all other effects and bonuses from armor, and it uses its proficiency modifier for unarmored defense. It gains resistance 8 to physical damage and is immune to precision damage. It can't cast spells, activate items, or use actions that have the attack or manipulate trait. It gains a fly Speed of 10 feet and can slip through tiny cracks. The target can Dismiss the spell.

The subject and all its gear become insubstantial, misty, and translucent. Its material armor (including natural armor) becomes worthless, though its size, Dexterity, deflection bonuses, and armor bonuses from force effects still apply. The subject gains DR 10/ magic and becomes immune to poison, sneak attacks, and critical hits. It can't attack or cast spells with verbal, somatic, material, or focus components while in gaseous form. This does not rule out the use of certain spells that the subject may have prepared using the feats Silent Spell, Still Spell, and Eschew Materials. The subject also loses supernatural abilities while in gaseous form. If it has a touch spell ready to use, that spell is discharged harmlessly when the gaseous form spell takes effect.

Every so often while perusing through the books I come across spells that I really don't know what to make of. Gaseous form is one of them. I suppose the intention of this spell was to be something a player could use to escape if they were chained up in a tower, but it looks like one of those spells that has a secret practical use like magic stone or magic mouth. Despite that, I can't really think of an application due to how difficult it is to make them spell interact with other spellcasting
12. something in gaseous form - how does one hurt it?
23 mei 2007 · Yes, you can just attack a gaseous creature and do damage. The only protection is the DR 10/magic, which to me seems weird.
I don't understand how an attack is resolved against a gaseous form. The spell description includes all kinds of references to AC, not being subject to crits, and DR, but can you just outright attack a cloud of gas with a sword and do damage to it? This isn't really spelled out, and it doesn't...

16. Gaseous Form: Am I reading this right?
15 jun 2018 · Gaseous Form is an OK spell. Hardly the best but it's not horrible, it just doesn't do what you assume it does by reading the name.
So, I was trying to find some sort of mechanical precedent for houseruling that elementals could not simply be beaten to death (for the same reason you cannot "kill" a lake by punching it), and decided to take a look at the gaseous form spell. Reading it, I realized something that frankly had never occurred to me before: Per the spell's wording, absolutely nothing about the effect actually prevents the subject from taking damage from mundane sources. They gain DR 10/Magic and become immune
